Along with Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Puducherry, the Center has also started preparations for Cyclone ‘Maichong’. He appealed to BJP workers in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh to join the relief and rescue operations and help the local administration. The Prime Minister on Sunday spoke to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and assured him of all possible help.
According to PTI, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in a bulletin said that the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into cyclonic storm ‘Michong’ on Sunday. It is likely to move north-west and reach West Central Bay of Bengal off the coast of South Andhra Pradesh and adjoining North Tamil Nadu on Monday. However, Gujarat was not directly affected by this storm. As its direction is different, there is no concern for Gujarat. The weather may change and the wind speed may be a little faster than normal.
Wind gusts of up to 110 kmph are possible.
It will then move north and run parallel to the south Andhra Pradesh coast and cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam on December 5 afternoon, the statement said. Due to the movement of this cyclone, the wind speed can range from 80-90 kmph to 110 kmph.
NDRF teams deployed
NDRF has deployed 21 teams in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry and 8 additional teams are kept ready. Ships and aircraft as well as rescue and relief teams from the Coast Guard, Army and Navy have been kept on standby.
Alerts are being issued in local languages through SMS and weather bulletins. Fishermen and boats have returned to safety. Necessary items have been arranged. The local administration has deployed sufficient number of officers for round-the-clock surveillance.
